We Are

Marc Petrovic and Kari Russell-Pool—internationally recognized artists who have been working in glass for around 30 years. Married, we share a studio in Cleveland, OH with our dog Hank. For nearly two decades, we have employed bird imagery as a metaphor for identity and relationships. We initially formed Birds in the Hand Jewelry to repurpose the leftover glass from Marc’s Avian Series and to playfully reexamine the relationships of the patterns and textures. In this series, birds are reduced to their pixellations; they are built, much like we are, one piece or experience at a time.

We take the unused pixels (murini,) and transform them into elegant focused studies for personal adornment.

Recently, we have taken inspiration from those earlier designs made out of recycled material, and created new, vibrant pieces that are sure to turn heads. Each piece is completely one-of-a-kind, cut in shapes that highlight the colorful and playful textures and patterns we create. Whether you choose to wear our designs as earrings, necklaces, or brooches, we hope that you enjoy wearing them as much as we like creating them.
